BOY band Hanson will be rolling back the years at the Oxford Union today.

The Oklahoma band, made up of brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac, will be talking about life at the top of the charts and about launching their own record label.

Hanson shot to number one in 25 countries with their debut single MMMBop in 1997.

Fourteen years later they have sold more than 15 million records and have eight top 40 singles and five albums under their belt.

Taylor, 28, said: “We are really looking forward to it. We’ve been to Oxford before but unfortunately we never get to spend a lot of time here.

“It will be good to get the opportunity to speak to young people who are trying to find their yet undetermined path in life.”

The band will be talking about their experiences launching an independent record label, before fielding questions from the students.

They were signed to Mercury Records in 1997 and their first album Middle of Nowhere sold 10 million copies worldwide.

But six years later the band was struggling with a lack of creative freedom and label executives consistently turned their songs down.

In 2003 they created their own record label 3CG Records, which they have recorded under ever since.

Mr Hanson said: “It is a massive difference when you have your own label. You realise you are taking the risk to invest in yourself.

“But I think more artists need to see themselves as entrepreneurs, and they are the product that is being sold.

“The future is definitely in self-propelled artists and I know Oxford has a lot of those.”

The band, now aged between 26 and 31, are now all married with children.

They are currently on their first UK tour in four years and have released their fifth studio album, Shout It Out.
