With reference to John Tanner’s letter (Oxford Mail, November 3), could he please provide evidence of prosperity and democracy that the EU has brought to us all in Britain?

And also give sensible reasons as to why Britain should fully embrace the EU?

As for peace in Europe, this can only be attributed to the Nato forces (mainly) along the Rhine in Germany.

And now, we learn that the intention is to withdraw British troops from the area over the next few years.

Defence is the primary duty of government and knowing that for a while there wasn’t one British warship defending our shores recently is just not good enough.

As for the Euro, this could very well spin out of control in the vortex to obscurity.

As for Oxford, because of the universities and tourism, it generates its own economy and renders the city virtually recession proof.

Fine for Oxford but not the rest of the country.

As for referenda, our MPs now have a golden opportunity to embrace the public on what they feel about immigration now that more than 100,000 have signed up to the Government’s e-petition scheme.

It’s not surprising, considering in 1970 there were 55 million in Britain.

Rather interesting – if the population of the EU was evenly distributed, Britain would be host to only 26 million. Pause for thought?
