LOVED ones killed on Oxfordshire’s roads were remembered by family, friends and emergency services in a special church ceremony yesterday.

Thames Valley Police’s Road Death Memorial Service was held for the sixth year at St Mary the Virgin Church in Thame.

Among the gathering of more than 200 people was David Undery, 66, who lost his wife Jan two years ago in a crash on the A329 by Great Milton aged 49.

Mr Undery, pictured above right, who lives in the village, said: “It is a strange feeling. You never get used to it, you just learn how to cope with it.”

He said of the service: “I think it is a really good idea and I commend the police for it.”

Bible passages and poems were read in the multi-faith service and the Bishop of Reading The Rt Rev Andrew Proud, inset, led an act of commemoration.

Force chaplain David Wilbraham told the audience: “Whilst grief is intensely personal and a lonely path, today is a time we can share that journey with others who know something of what it is like.”
