IT was a case of ‘When in Rome’ for schoolchildren as they dressed and ate like emperors this week.

The Year Three youngsters at Benson CofE School held the special dress-up day on Tuesday as part of their study of the historic civilisation.

So far the class of seven and eight year olds have looked at Roman art, made mosaic pictures, fought pretend battles, and baked Roman bread.

Seven-year-old Ava Vaccari said: “I enjoyed making the Roman bread and eating it.

“I ate mine with honey because I didn’t like the olives.

“I really liked the mini battle with the Celts at playtime.”

Year Three teacher Alexandra Stokes said: “The children have put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into this topic.”
