Sir – A few months ago The Oxford Times informed us that the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre was in dire financial straits, doubtless owing to the amount of complex and expensive orthopaedic operations they do there and taking on difficult cases from other hospitals.

We are now told that the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is going to amalgamate with the John Radcliffe and the Churchill hospitals which does seem a sensible idea.

However, what has happened to the Nuffield’s “debt”? Has it been cancelled, or have the John Radcliffe and the Nuffield undertaken to sort the matter out, if so, in what way?
