As A carer for a 97-year-old who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, I am concerned as to what is happening to adult social care services run by Conservative-led Oxfordshire County Council.

My relative worked from the age of 14 until she was 65. Now that she needs assistance from social services at the very end of her life, it does not appear to be forthcoming.

She was re-assessed in April as having substantial care needs after a lengthy two-hour form-filling session.

Seven months on and the care plan is still not in place. We are waiting for her personal budget to ‘come down from quota’.

Oxfordshire County Council has declared that it will not back-date payments to vulnerable adults who have been waiting for their budgets.

The county is saving money which these clients are entitled to. I find it distressing that the generation who worked and sometimes fought, during the Second World War, should be treated so shabbily by the Coalition Government and by their minions, Oxfordshire County Council.

A moral deficit is being created in order to pay for a financial one.
