MOVES to revive a direct Rail link between Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon took a step forward with a meeting held to discuss a £70,000 feasibility study.
Campaigners want to rebuild a connection from Honeybourne, on the Cotswold Line between Oxford and Worcester, to the Warwickshire town, offering direct rail links between the key tourist destinations and a quicker route between Stratford and London.
A meeting later this month is expected to approve the final brief for the study before tenders are sought from consultants.
Oxfordshire County Council, which has offered £10,000 towards the cost of the study, was represented at the meeting, hosted by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
Others taking part included Worcestershire County Council, West Midlands transport executive Centro, rail firm First Great Western and developer St Modwem, which contributed £10,000 in connection with a housing project alongside the disused line in Warwickshire.
More than £10,000 was raised from an appeal by the Stratford Rail Transport Group and Shakespeare Line Promotion Group.
