IT CAME as no surprise that the Government won the vote in the Commons regarding a referendum over the EU. They know full well that the electorate would return a resounding NO.

David Cameron promises to regain some of the powers relinquished to Brussels over the years. Labour leader Ed Miliband mocks him for saying such things but it was Ed’s sibling who, with Gordon Brown, gave away more powers by signing up to the constitution renamed the Lisbon Treaty.

Cameron promised the country a referendum on the EU when in opposition but after Labour signed the constitution, it was too late, so the Tories went back on their promise.

Anyway, to pull out now would be catastrophic for Britain as most of our industry here is foreign-owned.

Any industry we own is deployed in India.

Cameron is a big disappointment to the electorate, his recent meeting with the utility leaders showed that. It suits the Government if we pay for our gas and electricity as it means more money by way of the extra VAT.

It would suit the Government if tens of thousands of pensioners died because they couldn’t afford to feed themselves, or died of hypothermia, saving millions of pounds in pension payments.

Lastly, well done the 100 and so MPs who voted against the Government.

I have every admiration for Oxford East MP, Andrew Smith, one of the few who listens to his constituents.
