THE transformation of a nursery rated outstanding by Ofsted has been described as “a Cinderella story”.
Berinsfield Early Years Pre-School was given Ofsted’s highest judgment following an inspection in September.
It comes a few months after the pre-school, which has 34 children on its roll, moved into new, purpose-built premises in April.
Pre-school chairman Sue Bainbridge, pictured above with some pre-school children, said: “The judgment just reflects what good work we do. The new building has enabled the children to flourish.”
She said news that the village had a top-class pre-school was “brilliant” for the community. The pre-school was previously based in a temporary building designed to last 20 years, but it had been its home for about 35.
She said: “It was pretty shabby. It’s a bit like a Cinderella story really, and it’s just a good thing for the community which has lifted people’s spirits.”
In her report, inspector Melissa Cox said: “Children thrive in this exciting and stimulating setting and make excellent progress given their age, ability and starting points.”
She said the setting was led and managed in a “highly ambitious” way, which enhanced children’s care, learning and welfare.
