We wonder how many people would have put in the effort which Simon Elliston has managed.
The former paratrooper has spent the week delivering 52,000 poppies around Littlemore and Blackbird Leys.
Simon had tried without joy to find a poppy to buy at the weekend. None were to be found. But instead of shrugging, he discovered there was a problem with supplying shops in the area.
“I realised that if I did not do anything, no one would. So, before I knew it, I had 38 boxes and 52,000 poppies in my car,” he said.
It’s about putting in a lot of effort for very little recognition.
There are many people like Simon in the British Legion, but there needs to be more. Without going the extra mile, campaigns such as the Poppy Appeal would not be as successful.
