RE: Fukushima report and Oxford meeting.

As the UK continues undaunted with its nuclear power programme, a report published online by US and European experts estimates the catastrophe at Fukushima this year produced twice as much radioactivity as declared. It also states the plant may have started emitting radiation before the tsunami struck. The plant is still leaking radioactivity.

Environmentalists in the UK are divided by differences of opinion over the claim that nuclear power is the only way to avert the worst effects of climate change. In Germany there is no such division and the nuclear power programme has been halted with even more resources put to alternative power research and practice.

Because people in Oxford Green Party and Oxford CND think that it is important to get a true idea of the risks involved in nuclear power, we are holding a public meeting at the Town Hall tonight.

We have invited top academics and experts to give us some of the facts on the global effects of the Fukushima disaster and the way forward for the UK.

We hope that as many people as possible will come to listen and join the debate.
