I WAS appalled last weekend to read in the national media of David Cameron’s comments on the Occupy London protests.

It was more worrying that they came in a week in which our local MP and Prime Minster also dismissed our democratic right to have our views represented in the House of Commons by imposing a three-line whip during a debate on our relationship with the EU.

People are suffering. It’s estimated this winter that we will lose around 2,500 of the most vulnerable members of our communities due to fuel poverty.

Our NHS is also suffering and is facing cuts along with other vital public services. Libraries are closing, as too are youth centres, not to mention the rocketing cost of going to university.

It’s enough to make anyone angry, and any parent despair for their children’s futures. It could make you even angrier when you think of all the money that the Government paid to bail out the banks, when it was in fact the banks that caused all this sorry mess.

No wonder people are angry and taking to occupying the streets. I wish them the best.

In fact, I would go as far to say that I would welcome seeing an occupation camp like this set up here in Witney. Right in the heart of David Cameron’s constituency.

‘Occupy Witney’ sure does have a ring to it and we have a fantastic resource for camping in The Leys for a ‘Tent City’.
