DAY dreaming is being encouraged at Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre where workshops are helping teenagers to unlock their creativity.
Groups of 10 to 13-year-olds are creating their own plays, inspired by the power of dreams, and will showcase them during performances in February.
Youth arts leader Cathryn Baker said: “They are devising their own piece of theatre on that theme and they bring their own ideas, interpretations and enthusiasm. There’s no audition process – all the young people have to do is come and perform.”
The sessions are run by leaders like Ms Baker, with help from older teenagers who are training to be youth assistants with the project.
She added: “The pieces they perform are very much their views and there’s a real sense of ownership.
“We’re not a training ground for professional actors, although the young people do learn performance skills, but it’s also about social skills and understanding that every single person is creative.”
