THE delayed public inquiry into the controversial Cogges Link Road in Witney will resume on Tuesday.

It will decide whether Oxfordshire County Council can compulsorily purchase land needed for the scheme.

The road aims to reduce congestion and pollution in the town centre and will run from Oxford Hill to Station Lane.

The inquiry, which was originally due to end in early October, was delayed from the opening day after the original venue was deemed too small.

It was moved from Eynsham Hall to the larger High Street Methodist Church but was delayed again after the council amended the scheme.

The council first changed the link road’s junction with Cogges Hill Road from a T-junction to a roundabout, after admitting the previous design could cause “undesirable” congestion, and then put forward plans to replace the double mini-roundabouts at the end of Bridge Street with traffic lights.

The inquiry will reopen in the Methodist Church at 10am with the council calling its traffic and economic experts, Ian Woods and Mathew Hall, to give evidence. Both parties will give their closing statements on Friday, November 11, from 9.30am.
