Knitters are doing their bit for this year’s Poppy Appeal selling woollen poppies at their local shop.
Four East Hendred villagers have created more than 100 of the flowers which are on sale at Hendred Village Stores priced from 75p to £4.
Knitter Val Prior, of Coulings Close, said: “It just breaks my heart to see what our boys are doing abroad. And what I’m doing is nothing compared to what the soldiers do. But we are doing our little bit.”
The idea came from knitters working on flowers for a life-size knitted garden which community group East Hendred Entertains aims to display in Snells Hall in October next year.
Miss Prior wanted to knit a tourist attraction for the village after being inspired by a similar project in Bournemouth.
She said: “We were already knitting poppies for the garden so we decided to knit them for the appeal.
“It has two edges to it.
As well as supporting the appeal women can wear it as an accessory.”
