A Chipping Norton man has been charged with a string of distraction burglaries in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Police charged 59-year-old William Vinson, of Cotswold Terrace, with 11 burglaries which happened between September 2010 and October this year.

Vinson, who is currently remanded in custody, will appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on November 18.

He is accused of burgling homes in Hanney Road, Southmoor, on January 7 where a handbag containing £100 was stolen and Whitehall Lane, Checkendon, where £50 was stolen on May 12.

In Horse Close, Great Haseley, he is said to have taken £120 on August 25 and a purse containing £160 in Church View, Stoke Row, on September 15.

In total he is charged with snatching more than £3,500 in cash from homes.

Vinson is also accused of taking cash from homes in Northamptonshire, on September 14 last year, in Buckinghamshire, on May 10 and August 22 this year and in Northamptonshire on September 28.

He is charged with stealing handbags containing cash on October 3 in Gloucestershire and October 17 in Wiltshire.

On October 18 he is accused of grabbing £2,500 from an address in Blisworth, Northamptonshire.
