DEVELOPER Persimmon Homes Wessex has struck a deal for more than three acres of land featuring 50 new homes at Didcot’s Great Western Park development.

Planners from South Oxfordshire District Council have granted planning permission for Persimmon to build 50, two, three, four and five bedroom homes on the £11.4m site.

Persimmon have now joined Taylor Wimpey and David Wilson Homes as developers on the site where 3,343 homes are being built over the next 10 years.

Persimmon expect to start work in December with the first homes completed by the summer of next year.

Land director of Persimmon Homes Wessex Peter Taylor said: “There remains a great demand for new homes in the region and the Great Western Park acquisition is one of a number of sites we hope to bring forward.”

The first 220 homes went on sale in March in phase one of the development, and residents have already moved in to more than 20 of the new houses.

The project will see a £60m investment in the area.

The development is part of South Oxfordshire District Council’s core strategy, which outlines where new homes will go over the next 16 years, including a total of almost 8,800 houses for Didcot.

When completed, Great Western Park will feature 3,343 homes next to recreational facilities, primary and secondary schools, shops and play areas.
