AT a well known store in Oxford my friend was greeted with ‘Hi-ya’ by one of the staff. When she went to try on clothes, she was asked: ‘do you want any help sweetheart’?
When she went to pay she was called ‘dear’ and ‘thank you darling’ – she decided to complain to the manager, saying she felt paranoid by their greetings, only to be told: ‘there there’ and patted on the back – this was the final straw!
