Eatwells Community Café is the place to go for affordable homemade food and drinks, to have a chat and to brush up on a few life skills.

Housed at Barton Neighbourhood Centre since 2008 for the residents of Barton and visitors alike, the café is designed to be a social hub where the community and visitors can get together and catch up.

We have computers available to use, which proves especially useful for people wanting to prepare CVs, research job vacancies or use the Internet.

The café provides lunches for two ‘senior’ lunch clubs and hosts a weekly ‘Stay and Play’ Toddlers group, as well as offering outside catering buffet lunches for meetings and training sessions.

Volunteering and training opportunities are available at Eatwells for people from the local community, people with learning disabilities and those with mental health problems, along with work experience for young people.

We have a training officer who provides training support as required. Through training in the café and kitchen we aim to provide the opportunity for people to gain skills for work and specific hospitality based skills and experience such as using a till, food preparation and cooking, cake making, preparing hot drinks like cappuccinos and serving customers.

Alongside gaining skills and experience the training aims to increase confidence, motivation, numeracy, communication and aspirations. Our training promotes social integration and cohesion between different and diverse members of the community.

But we need volunteers and trainees to help us in the café, particularly if you are between 16-18 years old. Experience isn’t necessary; all we ask is that you have an enthusiastic approach to work!

Volunteers can give as little as two hours per week.

We can work with you to develop new skills and gain some real work experience, which can help as a step into work or study.
