WITNEY was painted pink this weekend for the town’s 11th annual breast cancer event.

For more than a decade the town has been holding the fundraising day in aid of Against Breast Cancer. Balloons were hung from trees and benches while shop windows were redecorated in pink – the theme colour of the national cancer charity.

Saira Khan, runner-up in the BBC1 show The Apprentice, opened the day in Witney High Street which was lined with stalls and on-street entertainment. Saira awarded the best shop window prize to Church Green Cafe. In second place was Decorus, third place Blanc Canvas and Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary shop was highly commended.

Leading the cake decorating classes was Rachel Horner, centre, with Kara Lloyd and Phillippa Noble, who said she was inspired to get involved with the charity after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer around eight years ago.

She added: “I used to do a lot of running for a cancer charity.

“But these classes are a much more fun way of helping.”

On Saturday, October 8, from 10am to 4.30pm at the Corn Exchange, Witney, there is a Handmade Jewellery Fair with jewellery, knitted goods and greetings cards on sale, in aid of Against Breast Cancer.
