Pupils in Eynsham have given their new school uniform top marks.

The standard issue outfits, worn by Bartholomew School students, have been created by Price & Buckland.

Pupils ditched the traditional shirt, tie and multi-coloured uniform and are now dressing in navy-themed polo shirts, special girls-fit tops and sweatshirts.

They chose the new clothes after a series of talks at student council meetings, questionnaires and parent-teacher consultations.

The uniform has proved a big hit with the pupils.

Maria Stapleton, 11, from Witney: "I think the new uniform looks great. It feels relaxing and comfortable to wear."

Fifteen-year-old Will Lawn, also from Eynsham, said: "I like the uniform change because it's more comfortable than before and it gives the school a better image."

Headteacher Andrew Hamilton said: "I chose to change the school uniform for this year as it's important to me that the local community should see our students looking their best, to reflect the high standards which run throughout our school.

"It was also clear, from consultation with the student council, staff and parents, that a simpler and more comfortable uniform was required.

"A uniform can give youngsters a sense of belonging and also help reduce low level disruption, so we are hoping that by bringing in new school wear, these objectives will be met."

* Work started yesterday on a £1.7m new sports hall at the school in Witney Road.

The existing hall will be demolished to make way for a purpose-built four court building with a large sports area, changing rooms, office space, reception, storage and a community fitness facility.

The new hall should be ready by September next year.
