A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of a series of sexual assaults in Southfield Road, Cowley, will not face charges.

Police confirmed that no further action will be taken against the Oxford man due to a lack of evidence to link him with four attacks on woman in May and June.

Two women, aged 21 and 24, were assaulted in Southfield Road on May 29, and a further two aged 19 and 20 were attacked four days later.

As police launched the hunt for their attacker, one of the victims spoke out to tell of her torment.

She said: “Cowley Road doesn’t feel safe to me anymore and I’d never walk home alone at night if I can help it.

“This experience has scarred me.”

She added: “You’re damaging these women in more ways than you can comprehend.”

Det Insp Simon Morton said: “We are happy that the gentleman in question wasn’t involved in the assaults and the series is still under investigation and we are still carrying out further inquiries.

“It’s worth noting that there have been no further incidents of assault since the initial reports and no other similar sexual assaults.”

Anyone with information should call Det Sgt Clare Storry on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
