Once again Stagecoach and the authorities have proffered excuses to support their claim that buses cannot operate through Rivermead Road, even though their drivers have recently shown that it is possible (OxfordMail, September 10, Residential Street Ok to take buses).

The route via Rivermead Road to Templars Square is no worse than other roads in Rose Hill which are of the same dimensions. To say that the road is “too narrow to run an hourly service along it on a regular, uninterrupted bases, we must keep each journey to schedule to avoid delaying the next journey” is a poor excuse.

This excuse has now been exploded as the service appears to have worked satisfactorily.

The question is do we have a bus service to serve the people or one to suit their timetable? I have always suspected the latter, which no doubt satisfies the authorities who subsidise the service.

Now that it has been proved that the service can be run, the old route via Rivermead Road should be re-established even if it means a sight alteration to the timetable.

Let us hope that the service wanted by the public will be brought into use immediately and that there will be no more excuses.
