Sir – It has been very interesting talking to people as they park their cars in the Headington car park and hearing from them the reasons for their visits. The car park is not only used by those who come to shop in Headington at supermarkets as well as locally-run shops, and pay the exceptionally high parking charges, but by those who come to the dentist and other health professionals, the businesses in Headington, the banks, hairdressers, the library, the cafes which contribute considerably to the maintenance of Headington as a community, and the local doctors’ surgery in Old High Street where, at the London Road end, there is no permitted parking on the street for non-residents Families come to Bury Knowle Park and the refurbished play area which is excellent and a great attraction, particularly during summer evenings and will continue to be at weekends all the year round. It would also jeopardise the future of the Headington Festival which takes place in the park in June, and the Churches Together events. The car park must remain as it is so that the Headington community continues to thrive.
