CITY-based family centre Donnington Doorstep held a belated Eid celebration.

It gave families and children of all backgrounds a chance to celebrate the end of Ramadan in style.

Lucy White, from East Oxford, brought her 18-month-old son Finbar Tohill along for the day.

She said: “It was lovely and it was nice for children to understand different celebrations.

“He really enjoyed watching some of the other children getting some henna tattoos.”

Fiona Clegg, senior play leader at Donnington Doorstep, said: “We did some Eid cards which we decorated with glitter and sequins, and we also had a selection of headscarves and we did some henna hand painting.

“We held a belated Eid this year because a lot of our staff who celebrate Eid were not with us.”

The celebrations were concluded with a Halal lunch of chicken in curry with rice and salad.

Eid-Ul-Fitr is held to celebrate the end of fasting which takes place during the Muslim month of Ramadan.

It is a moveable feast in the Western calendar, with Eid falling on August 30 this year.
