SUPERMARKET chain Sainsbury has submitted a planning application to build a superstore in London Road, Chipping Norton.
The company says it will create about 200 jobs at a new store, which will be built with traditional stone and rendering typical of buildings in the Cotswolds.
The retail giant has also applied to build a car park and a new roundabout, together with associated work and landscaping.
Sainsbury’s interest in the five-acre site, which was previously home to furniture maker Parker Knoll, dates back to early 2010. The building would use energy-saving devices, including a system which reuses rain water to flush toilets.
Chipping Norton currently has a small Sainsbury’s in Market Place – which would remain open if the new store is built – and a Co-op in High Street.
West Oxfordshire District Council will decide on the planning application. For more information, visit sainsburys-chippingnorton.co.uk
