A WOMAN driver had a lucky escape after her car hit a tree which collapsed across a busy road near Thame during yesterday morning’s high winds.

Drivers were forced to take diversions after 9am yesterday morning after the large tree collapsed across the A329 Rycote Lane in Milton Common, pictured.

Police closed the road while contractors used chainsaws to cut up the fallen branches before clearing the debris from the road.

Lucy Billen, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police, said: “It looks like the driver had a lucky escape.

“She came round the corner in her Peugeot 206 and the car hit the tree which was blocking the road.

“The driver was unhurt and did not ask for treatment but the car was damaged and had to be moved. The tree had to be cut with a chainsaw to be removed from the road as it was blocking both lanes.”

Met Office forecasters are predicting that windy conditions will continue in Oxfordshire until Saturday.
