PENSIONERS rolled up to experience all the fun of the fair as the circus came to town.

Stilt walkers and jugglers joined more than 200 of the county’s care home residents, who dressed up specially for the occasion.

The circus-themed event, which was held at The Kings Centre in Osney Mead, was part of The Orders of St John Care Trust’s (OSJCT) summer fun day.

Ninety-three-year-old Vera Wynne, with Sylvia Simonds and Vesta Avery, had come from Orchard Meadows home in Banbury.

She said: “It is a wonderful experience and I am enjoying every minute of it. It is nice to come and do something different.

“I didn’t put a colossal amount of thought into my costume but we wanted to wear our bows and make us look like we were part of the show.”

Jean Ross, 76, from St Edburg’s House in Bicester, said: “I have been thinking about my costume for a long while.

“I come to the Summer Fun Day every year.”

Ralph Rackley, who came from the Madley Park home in Witney, also enjoyed the entertainment on offer.

He said: “I am having a really nice time.”
