Regulars at a popular football pub could make a huge difference to a toddler who lost all her limbs to meningitis.

Drinkers at the Priory, next to Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium, are planning a whole season of fundraising events for Charlotte Nott – starting with a 200ft bungee jump next month.

The three-year-old was struck down with meningococcal septicaemia in December and had to have all her limbs amputated below the joints to stop the virus spreading.

A fundraising drive is in progress to help Charlotte afford advanced prosthetics and after meeting her father, Priory landlord Tim Rackley has offered to stage a series events until the end of the football season.

He said: “I didn’t know the family before but I’ve got some friends who drink in here who went to a fundraising event for Charlotte and then I saw stuff about it in the papers. After playing Aunt Sally against Charlotte’s dad Alex, who plays for the Prince of Wales in Horspath Road, I said to him that I think we could help.”

The pub has previously raised thousands of pounds for Oxford United’s 12th Man fund and Tess Sullivan, a toddler from Accrington with a rare degenerative disease.

Mr Rackley said he was confident of raising “more than a five-figure sum” over the season through raffles, bucket collections, car parking money, a matchday jukebox and special events.

He said: “What we are trying to do is raise a considerable sum, not just a few grand. We want to keep this going throughout the whole season.”

He added: “It’s horrendous what Charlotte and her family have been through. I’ve got a two-year-old daughter myself.”

The sponsored bungee jump is planned for September 10, before Oxford take on Burton.

About 35 people have already signed up but there are still places available. Participants must raise £60 to cover the cost of the jump but any extra money will go to Charlotte. To sign up and get a sponsorship form, visit the pub.
