FIRST, it is good to note that the Government has taken a very firm line with the rioters and equally pleasing to note that all parties appear to be in concord with this.
HMP Service is going to be possibly inundated with new prisoners and one wonders if the service can cope.
Might I suggest that the British Army Correction Centre at Col-chester might be used to accommodate those on short periods of incarceration?
This will give a short, sharp shock to offenders but might also move them in the right direction.
The fund normally allocated to the prison service would, of course, be paid to Colchester making, I am sure, a welcome contribution to their running costs.
