I read the article on prostrate cancer in the Cabbages and Kings column (Oxford Mail, August 12) with interest as I had earlier this year decided to get the doctor to check as advised in the media for my age (80) and a lump was found.

I was referred to the Churchill Hospital and sure enough there is a lump on my prostrate.

The consultant’s advice was to leave it alone, as at my age, you would expect to have some sign of cancer, and keep an eye it with annual blood tests.

It makes me think it was a waste of time going all that way by buses to be told I am too old now to be treated.

Also I now cannot get it out of my mind and worries me.
