AN 83-year-old woman was threatened in her home by a burglar holding a hook who then stole a quantity of cash.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the pensioner was woken in the early hours of Saturday morning at her home in Dunsden Close, off Foxhall Road, in Didcot.

The victim was in bed when she was woken by a man coming into her bedroom at about 5.30am who threatened her with a metal hook.

He demanded money and the victim handed over what police described as a substantial amount, which she had been saving up for a trip.

The burglar is then thought to have left through patio doors at the back of the house.

Det Insp Steve Duffy, who is investigating the incident, said: “The victim has been left very shaken by what was a traumatic experience for her.

“Fortunately, she did not suffer any significant injuries in the incident.

“Due to the time of the morning, we would be looking for help from people who were about to go to work, and of course there are people coming home from clubs and nights out.”
