WOODSTOCK was bloomin’ all over for two special visitors in 1983.
Britain in Bloom judges John Reed and Peter Atkinson were escorted around the streets by district councillor Elizabeth Woodward.
The town had already won the Thames and Chilterns’ section of the contest and was being judged in the next round of the national finals.
New electric lamps, chosen for their Victorian style and giving a mellow glow similar to gas lamps, were to be erected in the town’s side streets.
The old-style lighting, to preserve the town’s character, was due to be installed at a cost of £3,000.
An exhibition of the town’s history was staged at the City and County Museum in 1974.
