A CHRISTIAN anti-war campaigner has claimed she could be left on the breadline by a court decision to claw back an unpaid fine from her pension.

Susan Clarkson, of Bath Street, St Clement’s, was summoned to Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday after she refused to pay £553 in court fines, costs and compensation.

She told the Oxford Mail: “That is just the way it is. It won’t stop me from carrying out actions.”

At the hearing she was told the court will reclaim the outstanding funds from her pension, or by using bailiffs. Failing that, she could be hauled before the court and jailed.

The fine was imposed on Miss Clarkson by magistrates in June after she was convicted for criminal damage and trespass at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Aldermaston, Berkshire, on September 6 last year.

Yesterday she was told the court will first attempt to take the money from her pension if the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) agrees.

The DWP is likely to block the move if it leaves Miss Clarkson with less than £137.35 a week.

After the ruling she said: “I came here today and said to myself, I did what I did with the direct action and the action of the court is not my business. It’s up to them to do what they feel they have to do.”
