A MEETING to discuss an Oxford playground this week dashed dreams it could open again soon.

Supporters of the Blackbird Leys Adventure Playground (BLAP) held an AGM on Monday to elect new committee members and plan the future.

The 36-year-old playground closed in December 2009 and supporters wanted to gather support and new funding ideas.

BLAP committee chairman Kieran Watson, 40, said: “The AGM attendance was fairly poor and the outcome was not as positive as we had hoped.

“We were unable to elect a new committee and we need to set up a new AGM date.”

The playground was this year refused Big Society Funding from Oxfordshire County Council, the Big Lottery fund and help from other grants.

Mr Watson last week told the Oxford Mail: “Our campaign is now to shout louder and let people know we’re here. I feel so desperate the playground is going to be lost.”

But at the AGM on Monday, a motion was proposed to dissolve the charity. Three committee members agreed, three disagreed and another three abstained.

Mr Watson said: “I advocated for not losing the play space.”

This vote will be discussed again at the next AGM, a date for which will be announced soon. Any interested public members are welcome.
