For the past two mornings I have experienced potentially dangerous situations on the very winding B4015 between Chiselhampton and the Golden Balls roundabout, near Oxford.

As I negotiated a blind bend on this road (travelling within the prescribed 50mph) this week, I encountered a double length HGV coming the other way, but straddling my side of the road.

There was barely enough room for me to pass this vehicle, and if a 4x4 or another lorry had been going the other way, there would have been a very nasty accident.

Similarly, the next day, I was following an HGV through Little Milton, which also has some bends which cannot be safely negotiated by large vehicles.

The lorry carried on to the B4015 and was travelling in the centre of the road around the bends. By pure luck, it didn’t collide with anything coming in the opposite direction, but it was an accident waiting to happen – and one which I wouldn’t have wanted to witness.

The continuation of this road to Clifton Hampden prohibits vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, and I strongly recommend that such a prohibition should be instated on the section I have discussed here.

I am interested to read of other readers’ comments on this matter.
