HOUSEHOLDERS want to see traffic calming measures in a Bicester road after two serious incidents in just four months.

Last month 15-year-old Alex Cook spent two days in hospital after he was hit by a car on a blind bend in Boston Road.

And in April, a car struck Derek Dudley’s house in Lancaster Close, on the corner of Boston Road, causing £75,000 of damage.

Alex was knocked over on the bend as he crossed the road in rain on July 6.

His head struck the vehicle’s windscreen leaving him suffering a fractured cheek bone and cuts, and needing stitches.

He said: “I didn’t see or hear anything, then the next thing I knew I was on the floor. It was frightening, and all a bit hazy.”

He wants changes to be made to improve vision at the junction for drivers and pedestrians.

Mr Dudley said it was the fifth time in six years a vehicle had veered off the road and hit his property. Previously his garden fence had taken the brunt.

Neighbour Gurdeu Purewal, said her fence had also been hit by a car. Now residents are calling for traffic calming measures or a pedestrian crossing.

Mr Dudley, inset, said: “Something needs to be done. Sooner or later someone is going to get seriously hurt.”

An Oxfordshire County Council spokesman said the authority was aware of residents’ concerns and would monitor the situation, but had no plans to introduce traffic calming.

He said: “All highways authorities have to decide which proposals to take forward based on strict criteria including reported accidents resulting in injury, which remain at a relatively low level.”
