A teenager was preyed upon under a railway bridge by a pair of would-be-robbers as she walked to work in Oxford.

The two men came up behind the 18-year-old, grabbed her arm and demanded her phone, but fled empty-handed when they were disturbed by a cyclist.

The incident, which left the victim with an injured wrist, happened on Monday at about 4pm, in Priory Road, Littlemore, and police now want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time.

The first man, who is described as white, in his 20s, of stocky build and 6ft tall, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a red zipped-up jacket with the hood up, three-quarter length navy trousers, and a black scarf over his face.

His accomplice was described as white, about 6ft tall, and slim. He was wearing a white zipped-up jacket, dark coloured shorts, white plimsolls, and also covered his face.

Dc Steve Martin said: “Luckily the victim was not seriously injured in the incident, although she was left with a sore wrist.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, especially the man who cycled past as it was happening as he may have vital information. I also would like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of those involved.”

Anyone with information should contact Dc Steve Martin on 08458 505505, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
