Sir – The Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Oxford East claims that “air pollution is dangerously high across Oxford” (Letters, July 28). This is typical of green scaremongering and is completely untrue.
If you tune to page 417 of the BBC Ceefax, you will find the actual figures and the forecast for five days ahead.
A scale of one to 10 is used to measure air pollution in all of England’s major cities. One to three is low, three to five is moderate, and eight to 10 is high.
Oxford is consistently at three, and on rare occasions has reached four. In short, air pollution in Oxford is not even high, let alone dangerously high.
I would have thought that somebody attempting to gain high office would have at least checked the facts before making absurd, scaremongering claims.
