ALMOST a third of bikers stopped by police near a motorcycle hangout in Berinsfield were found to be breaking the law.
Some 90 motorcyclists were stopped by officers on Monday after noise complaints from residents living near the H-Cafe.
And 26 were found to be committing offences, from riding uninsured bikes to having broken indicators, and were handed fines ranging from £30 to £200.
Three uninsured bikes were seized by police during the operation between 6pm and 8.30pm on the A415 and A4074.
The operation involved Roads Policing, the local neighbourhood policing team, and Thames Valley Police vehicle examiners.
Pc Mark Pillings, from the Abingdon neighbourhood team, said: “We have always had complaints from residents who live in villages around the H-Cafe.
“It all stems from noise generated by motorcyclists. We have to weigh up the views of people complaining and the motorcyclists.”
Monday night is bike night at the cafe and attracts scores of motorcyclists.
Cafe owner Richard Allen said: “I was really not happy about it at all. To me it just seems like a money-making thing. It really affected trade as well.
“No one had the decency to come in here and explain what they were going to do.”
He said he was working hard to cut down the noise, adding: “Four years ago it was so bad. It is fantastic now compared to then.”
