THE villagers of South Leigh near Witney came together on Sunday for a traditional summer fayre.

Organisers estimated that about 2,000 people attended the event, which included Aunt Sally, archery and dog shows.

As well as the traditional events, there was also have-a-go archery, a laser shooting game and belly dancers.

Noel Seacole, 42, from Woodstock Road in Witney, went along with his wife Helen and their children Roisin, pictured with the family dog Jessie, 11, and Niamh, eight.

Mr Seacole said: “It was great fun and had a lovely village atmosphere. It is important to bring village community together, and the fayre definitely achieved that.”

Jessie won a prize for the waggiest tail and Roisin, 11, a prize for being the best dog handler under 14.

Karen Wilson, a member of the organising committee, said: “It went really well.

“It was a lovely sunny day and we had lots of people come along. There were probably a couple of thousand people.

“We like to keep it a traditional village fayre, but we have to entertain the children as well.

“This is the third year, and each year seems to get better. It is fantastic for getting all the villagers involved and bringing them all together.”
