PARENTS and teachers at a village school are gearing up to feed thousands of festivalgoers to raise valuable funds.

Next month Cropredy School will be transformed into a field kitchen for three days to cook breakfasts for about 3,000 people attending Fairport’s Cropredy Convention.

Volunteers will serve up more than 2,000 sausages and rashes of bacon and more than 1,500 eggs. Organisers hope to raise £5,000 to buy interactive white boards for the school.

Teacher Claire Furneaux said “I’ve been involved with Fairport breakfasts ever since I started working at the school and although it can be hard work it is also a great deal of fun.

“Everyone pulls together – the staff, the parents and even some of the older children get involved.

“The extra funds make a huge difference to the school.”

In previous years cash from festival breakfasts has helped build the school’s swimming pool and a foundation unit, and funded school trips, treats for children and an outdoor learning area. Donations have also been made a school in Africa, which is linked with Cropredy School.

Breakfasts are served from 6.30am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 12, 13 and 14.

Music shop One Man Band, in Church Lane, Banbury, is raffling a fiddle signed by musicians performing at this year’s Fairport Festival.

Tickets cost £1 and proceeds will be donated to Banbury Young Homeless Project.
