RACHAEL O’CONNOR enters the eye-popping Kiss to get a taste of its popular Friday Flavours night.

Tucked between Oxford’s seriously popular Thirst and monster club Lava Ignite sits the small, but perfectly formed, Kiss Bar.

To say that 37 Park End Street is a tough spot to fill is putting it mildly, but this cute cocktail bar pulls it off in style.

So, venturing beyond the eye-popping pink neon sign for a taste of the truly unique is well worth doing – just brace yourself for an optical shock.

State-of-the-art lasers, mirror-balls, silver manikins, puckered lips at every turn, red roses, black-leather seating booths as well as a massive wall motif of a couple in a steamy embrace! If ever a venue was designed to help Mars and Venus caress, this is it.

The decor is spectacularly flirty and luckily there are plans afoot for an impressive makeover of the toilets to bring them up to standard – with full length mirrors, gold taps and ample room to pout and pose.

The night, held weekly on a Friday, was once known as Kiss 'n' Tell, but evolved into Friday Favours over the six years it has been running. Resident DJ AC plays the crowd’s favourite tunes all night long, masterfully mixing the old-fashioned way on his trusty Technics – pumping out a combination of house, RnB and ol' skool garage, all with a hard-hitting beat. If you’re really lucky you may even receive a shout out from the man himself.

From 10pm onwards, there’s a constant flow of good-looking, dressed-up party people and come the midnight hour the place is full to bursting point.

There were all ages enjoying the mini-mirrored dance floor with some obvious regulars revelling in the fun and friendly atmosphere.

It’s not surprising the night has collected a strong fan base considering there’s free entry and competitive drinks deals – £3 for Corona, £3.50 for a spirit and mixer as well as every shot flavour you can imagine and some great cocktails including my favourites, Million Dollar Kiss and Kissing Cowboy.

Despite heavy competition from its neighbours, Kiss has strong pulling power and unlike many venues in the city it doesn’t die a death when the students leave town.

It’s a great way to get in the mood for a big night out and you may well end up staying right up till kick-out.

Pucker up and give Friday Favours a go.
