IT’S surely every young person’s dream to be in a famous pop band. But how many actually make it?

The answer, of course, is next to none. Two Oxford dancers, however, are urging music-lovers to follow their dreams after being picked to star in one of the country’s hottest new acts.

Former carpenter Kieran Edmonds and school pupil Levon de Silva are lapping up the celebrity lifestyle as members of streetdance group Six-D.

And today they make their first appearance with the band in Oxford, meeting fans and signing CDs at HMV in Cornmarket, at 5pm.

It’s a fairytale, by anyone’s standards, and is all the more remarkable given that both lads still live with their mums in Oxford. Kieran, 23, from St Clement’s, was partway through an apprenticeship in woodworking at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, when he was picked for the group after being spotted at London’s Pineapple Studios.

He said: “It’s so much fun. I never thought this would happen.

“One minute I’m here in Oxford, and the next I’m flying off to LA!”

The dancer, whose nickname is ‘Spesh’ is no layabout, having practised karate under Senseis Rob and Jake at the Oxford School of Martial Arts.

He took up breakdancing and the Brazilian art of capoeira as a teenager and picked up small parts on television – appearing on the Jonathan Ross Show limboing in front of Rihanna, and starring as Gordon Ramsey’s body double in a trailer for a show.

He has also starred in music videos for Ian Brown and Roisin Murphy, played a Death Eater in Harry Potter and danced in a Bollywood movie.

Kieran, who was a member of Oxford’s Oxtricks dance crew and taught breakdancing in the city, said he was grateful for the support given by people in Oxford.

He said: “I am especially grateful to the Oxford School of Martial Arts.

“They taught me a lot and instilled in me a lot of great values that continue to help me today.”

The six-piece has appeared on stage with The Saturdays and JLS, and spent last year jetting between London, Los Angeles and Miami, to work on their debut album with an all-star cast of producers and songwriters alongside the people who made stars of Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole, Beyonce, Usher, P Diddy and Kelly Rowland.

Levon, 15, who’s nickname is ‘Lil’ Bit’, has been dancing since he was 12, training at Kelly Chandler’s KC’s School of Dance at Blackbird Leys Leisure centre, and going on to win the UK Hip Hop Dance Championships at his first attempt.

The St Gregory the Great pupil, who lives in Blackbird Leys, has represented the UK in Europe, topping the competition three years in a row and winning his section at last year’s World Hip Hop Championships.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “It has all come out of the blue. But they are really good at school. I get a lot of support and they give me the time to do what I have to do.”

The pair, who star alongside singer Chantelle Bernard, Cassie MacMillan, Pierre Angus and Kimmy Campbell in the band, are clearly enjoying themselves.

“The past seven months has been leading up to the release of our single, Best Damn Night,” says Kieran.

“So now is the moment of truth when we’ll see if it all pays off.”

“Things are going really well. But if I decide I don’t want to do this in the future, I can always go back to carpentry!”
