I refer to your article (Oxford Mail, July 18) concerning a report that Oxford City Council is asking Thames Valley Police to grant powers to community wardens to fine and warn cyclists who break the law by cycling on footways.
I was wondering how the community wardens or the police will actually do this?
In Abingdon, I see police riding on the pavements on many occasions. I have also asked them why they do it when it is unlawful – but had no reply.
How can the police have the audacity to fine any cyclists and implement laws when they do not abide by the law themselves?
I hope if the police start to issue these fines, that people in Oxfordshire start to make citizens’ arrests of police officers and PCSOs who break the law themselves.
Let the games commence!
