Sir – Richard Bowen (Letters, July 14) cannot understand why cyclists don't use the cycle path on the pavement next to Botley Road. If he is having trouble understanding the cyclist’s point of view, I would suggest that he tries it himself and compares the bumps, enforced stops at junctions and obstructions (bus stops, pedestrians etc.) with the smooth, obstacle-free road.

Failing that, and given his concern for my safety as a cyclist, I suggest that Mr Bowen tries driving his car on the pavement while I ride my bike on the road.
