Compost created from food and garden waste collected from Cherwell homes is being used to condition soil in planters along Sheep Street.
The planters were among attractions inspected by Thames and Chilterns In Bloom judges on Tuesday.
Cherwell District Council said if all food waste was put in the brown bins it would avoid £220,000 in landfill taxes.
