A grateful father has helped organise a fun day this weekend to thank the hospital that saved his baby daughter’s life.

Amber Ghulam’s daughter Isha was three months old when she went to the Oxford Children’s Hospital with life-threatening pneumonia.

Isha, now 20 months, spent two weeks in intensive care and went on to make a full recovery.

Mr Ghulam, of Derwent Avenue in Marston, Oxford, said: “It is no exaggeration to state that without the children’s hospital and the good work of all the nurses and doctors who work there, my daughter would not be alive today.

“I am eternally indebted to all the staff who helped care for my daughter, and this is my small way of repaying the debt I feel I owe to the hospital. To think that I could have lost Isha fills me with dread, and I now want to help others in the same situation.”

Mr Ghulam, 34, is a founding member of Oxford Charity Fun Days, which is holding the charity football tournament and fun day for the hospital on Sunday.

The event is taking place at St Gregory’s School in Cricket Road, Oxford, from 11am to 4pm when activities on offer will include a bouncy castle, face painting, ice cream, candy floss, archery, owls and craft workshops.

Half of the money raised on the day will go to the Edhi Foundation, a Pakistani relief organisation, which helps victims of the floods in Pakistan last year.

Chairman of OCFD Shajaat Hussain said: “We’re really excited to be holding this event, and have had a lot of interest in it already.

“We have had lots of planning go into making sure this is a fun day for all the family and that it can be enjoyed by the whole community.

“It promises to be a day not to be missed.”

The event will be opened by the Lord Mayor Elise Benjamin and trophies will be presented to the winning football team by Oxford East MP Andrew Smith.
