It is peak house-hunting time for parents moving to Oxford so their children can start school here in September.

The independent schools have just broken-up for summer and many families have already lined up homes.

But anyone who hasn’t found somewhere yet need not panic, as there is still a good selection within striking distance of the major schools.

North Oxford and Summertown are in most demand, according to agents Carter Jonas because the area is within walking distance of schools such as St Edward’s, Oxford High, The Dragon School and D’Overbroeck’s.

Christopher Way, of Carter Jonas, said the agency had rented a number of family homes during the past few weeks but there are still properties available including a recently-built, detached seven-bed home in Charlbury Road available, unfurnished, at £9,250 per month.

The agency also has a newly-built, five-bedroom house in Davenant Road on its books.

It includes reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast room, three en suite bedrooms and off-street parking and is available, unfurnished, for £3,950 per month.

Mr Way said: “For people moving into a city for a school, buying isn’t always the best or easiest option as you are on a deadline and need to be in a particular location.

“Often people already have a home elsewhere or they may not be able to find the right house and don’t want to be rushed into a decision.

“Renting a home is an easier way to get into an area and find your way around, so you get a feel for what you really want, even down to which street you wish to live in.”
