A MOTHER broke down yesterday as she heard how doctors battled to save her newborn daughter who was born with a rare genetic disorder.

Muskaan Rizwan was born at 11.15am on June 9, 2009 at the John Radcliffe Hospital. But just two hours later, doctors told parents Mohammad and Tabassam, from Fairlie Road in Cowley, Oxford, that she had died.

A police investigation was launched, but it was discovered she had been suffering with Ehlers-Sanlos Syndrome Type 7C.

An inquest at Oxford Coroners’ Court yesterday praised doctors, saying “heroic efforts” had been made to save Muskaan.

Muskaan was described as having “torrential bleeding” from deep cuts caused when the baby was delivered using forceps in a caesarean section.

The syndrome causes the skin to become more fragile and susceptible to cuts.

There have only been 10 recorded cases worldwide.

Det Ser Phil Jones from Thames Valley Police said: “Heroic efforts were made to stem the bleeding and keep baby Muskaan alive.”

Coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a narrative verdict.
